Protection for Fine Instruments, Parts and Finishes:  For violins and other fine instruments, Von Schneider Wax creates an ultra-thin protective barrier that helps shield surfaces from moisture, fingerprints, oxidation, handling wear, and environmental exposure while preserving the natural appearance and character of the instrument. VS Micro-Crystalline Wax also is great for conditioning and preserving your fingerboard, fittings and bridge.

Unlike many traditional waxes, micro-crystalline wax is non-acidic and highly stable. It does not become brittle over time and resists moisture exceptionally well. The result is a refined protective finish that enhances depth and luster without leaving a heavy buildup or artificial shine.

Why Luthiers Choose Micro-Crystalline Wax

  • Non-acidic and archival-grade protection

  • Helps protect against moisture, sweat, fingerprints, and handling wear

  • Creates a thin, durable protective barrier without heavy buildup

  • Buffs to a natural finish without excessive gloss

  • Stable and resistant to yellowing over time

  • Suitable for fine wood surfaces, fittings, chin rests, cases, and hardware

  • Used by craftspeople, restorers, and collectors who require long-term preservation

  • Why Von Schneider Wax Is Different

Not all micro-crystalline waxes are formulated equally. Von Schneider Wax was developed with a focus on professional craftsmanship and long-term material protection. Our formula emphasizes clarity, workability, and durability while maintaining a refined finish appropriate for heirloom-quality pieces. Made in the USA, our wax is trusted across disciplines ranging from furniture making and metalworking to restoration, preservation, blade-smithing, and fine woodworking. We believe the products used to maintain an instrument should reflect the same care and discipline that went into building it.

    Recommended Use

For finished violin surfaces, apply sparingly.

    1. Ensure the surface is clean and dry

    2. Using a soft lint-free cloth, apply a very thin coat

    3. Allow the wax to haze lightly for a short period

    4. Buff gently with a clean cloth until the surface feels smooth and dry

A little goes a long way. The goal is not to create buildup, but to leave behind a refined protective layer that preserves the instrument while maintaining its natural appearance and feel.

For valuable antique instruments or delicate historic finishes, always test on a small inconspicuous area first and use according to the recommendations of a qualified restoration professional.
